The original main library operated out of the building located in the public park located downtown on Pacific Avenue at Broadway. When the building site was condemned for construction of the new main library and city hall building in the early 1980s, the library was moved to a former McDonnell Douglas Automation (McAuto) building located on Ximeno Avenue, for a period of about 18 months.
The new main library building occupies a first floor and basement in the complex located at 101 Pacific Ave, at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Pacific Avenue, approximately one block from the old location.
